In Spring, TX, eligible recipients can access the US federal government’s Medicare health insurance. Only some people are eligible for coverage under Medicare. You could be eligible if you are:
- 65 years old or more
- A person who has been diagnosed with specific disabilities, even before you are 65 years old
- Diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), a permanent type of kidney failure that requires you to receive dialysis or possibly even need a kidney transplant
Original Medicare
Medicare coverage is broken down into different sections for various services.
In Original Medicare, there are two parts included:
- Hospital Insurance which is Medicare Part A
- Medical Insurance which is Medicare Part B
When you have Original Medicare coverage and receive a medical service, you make various payments in different situations. For example, every year, you start paying your deductible in January. Most of the time, this is 20% of the medical service you receive. Therefore, if your medical provider gives you a Medicare-approved service that costs $100, you will have to pay $20, and Medicare pays the other $80.
Original Medicare does not pay for every medical expense you may need. Still, it does pay for many covered healthcare costs for supplies and services.
Medicare – Part (A)
Medicare – Part (A)coverage pays for a portion of the expenses anytime you are hospitalized, need care in a skilled nursing facility, need hospice care, and some home health care services.
You will probably not need to pay any premiums for Medicare – Part (A)coverage. Most people worked enough before they turned 65 years old to have paid enough for Medicare. If your spouse or you worked for more than 10 years in your lifetime, chances are, your Medicare premium is zero.
If you did not work for more than 10 years and paid into Medicare, you could still buy Part A coverage if you want. The premiums usually go up every year.
Medicare Part B
Medicare Part B coverage applies to appointments with your doctor, any hospital care performed as an outpatient, many preventative screenings, and some medical supplies.
Medicare Part D
You can remember Medicare Part D coverage easily because it covers Drugs. Part D helps pay the expenses of your prescribed drugs.
Medicare Supplements as additional medical insurance are also available to help you with many more health care expenses.
