In Austin, TX, you may be able to take advantage of Medicare Insurance provided by the US federal government. Not everyone is eligible for Medicare, but you could be if you are within 3 months of your 65th birthday. You could also be eligible if you have a qualifying disabling condition.
To try to simplify Medicare coverage options, the different parts are divided by the types of medical services they pay for.
Original Medicare Insurance Austin TX
Original Medicare has two parts.
- Medicare – Part (A) is called Hospital Insurance that helps you pay for bills when you are admitted into the hospital. It also pays part of the bills when you need care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, or some types of in-home nursing care services.
- Medicare Part B is a type of Medical Insurance that helps you pay for specific services from a doctor, care you receive as hospital outpatient services, various medical supplies, screenings, and preventive services.
- You may also have access to Medicare Part D coverage, which helps cover some of the costs of many prescription drugs and certain vaccines.
Original Medicare requires that you pay a portion for all the services you receive. Usually, you pay 20%, and Medicare pays the other 80%. So, if your doctor provided a Medicare-approved service for you and the bill was $100, you would pay $20, and Medicare would pay $80.
Plus, at the beginning of every year, you will start to contribute to your annual deductible amount.
You can count on Medicare to help you pay for many of your medical expenses, but it is not complete coverage.
Is Medicare coverage free?
Most people work long enough and pay enough into the Medicare system to not have to pay any premiums when they turn 65. If your spouse or you worked for more than 10 years or so, you probably don’t need to pay any premiums for Medicare Part A.
If you worked for fewer than 10 years or didn’t pay into Medicare, you could still choose to purchase the medical insurance yourself.
If you never worked or paid into Medicare for less than about 7 ½ years (30 quarters), your premiums for Part A will be $506 in 2023. If you worked and then paid into Medicare for more than 7 ½ years, but less than 10 years, your premiums would be $278 for that same Part A coverage for 2023.
